Le béton est-il lourd ?

Is concrete heavy?

When we think of concrete, we often imagine imposing buildings, bridges or massive sidewalks. This image of a heavy and rigid material is anchored in our minds, but it does not reflect reality.

Concrete is actually a lightweight material. Its density (2 grams/cm3) is slightly lower than that of glass (2.6 grams/cm3), and ten times lower than that of gold! As you can see in the photo, an Icy Mouse concrete pendant weighs less than a €1 coin. Needless to say, you don't feel its weight.

One of the secrets of concrete's lightness in jewelry lies in its internal structure. Unlike metals such as gold, silver or steel, which are compact and dense, concrete has a porous structure. These microcavities, invisible to the naked eye, considerably reduce the overall weight of the material, while maintaining its solidity. This phenomenon is similar to that of volcanic stones such as pumice, which appear massive but remain surprisingly light due to their many internal air bubbles.

Far from being a massive material, concrete in jewelry turns out to be a surprising ally: light, resistant and pleasant to wear. And it allows a freedom of creation that does not exist with other materials. Adopting a concrete jewel is therefore choosing originality without compromising on comfort!

So, are you ready to let go of your preconceived ideas and discover the lightness of concrete in a new light?
